- This Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Issue stamp commemorates the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1805 and is the oldest art museum and school in the United States. The stamp depicts “The Artist in His Museum,” a self-portrait painting by Charles Willson Peale, one of the founders of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. The painting is a part of the museum’s collection.
