- This World Refugee Year Issue stamp commemorates World Refugee Year, held July 1, 1959 to June 30, 1960. The resolution was created by the United Nations as an international effort to raise awareness of and support the millions of refugees across the globe. Over 70 countries issued stamps for the World Refugee Year. This stamp features a family heading toward the light at the end of a long walkway, symbolizing a new life.
