- Description
- This Prominent Americans Issue stamp depicts, Franklin D. Roosevelt, the thirty-second President of the United States. Born in 1882 in New York, he attended Harvard University; he attended the Columbia Law School briefly before passing the New York Bar Exam. Roosevelt began his political career in 1910 when he was elected to the New York State Senate. He later served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy and was James M. Cox’s vice presidential candidate during the 1920 presidential election. In 1921, Roosevelt contracted polio. He was elected governor of New York in 1929. His strong base helped him with the 1932 presidential election. He was elected for four consecutive terms; he served from 1933 until his death in April 1945.
