- This Prominent Americans Issue stamp depicts Francis Parkman, an American writer and historian. Parkman developed a love for the wilderness as a child. As a young man, he traveled through Europe and the American West. His most well-known works include “The Oregon Trail: Sketches of Prairie and Rocky-Mountain Life” and a seven-volume history of European colonization entitled “France and England in North America.”
