12c S.S. Arawa order for stamps
Object Details
- Description
- Written on August 16, 1894, in Honolulu and "handed to [the American Bank Note Company] by E. H. Allen, [Hawaiian] Consul, August 31, 1894." Postmaster General Oat enclosed a design for a new 12-cent postage stamp for the Republic of Hawaii which he wanted the American Bank Note Company to engrave and print in the same color blue as was used for the U. S. 1-cent Columbian stamp.
- Oat requested 10 packages of 250 sheets each of this stamp. Unlike his other orders, he makes no mention of the number of stamps per sheet [probably 50].
- "In executing the order, please be careful to carry out all the details as given in said design, as regards color, size, etc. We want the best workmanship, paper, etc."
