Object Details
- Description
- On April 14, 1986, Vatican City issued a series of five stamps in recognition of the International Year of Peace.
- The 2,000-lire stamp displays text from the pope's message for the World Day of Peace (January 1. 1986). "Peace is a value with no frontiers North-South, East-West: only one peace." The illustration depicts the pope's hands, the left hand grasping the pastoral staff and the right urging a dove in flight towards a rainbow.
- The stamps are vertical in format, measure 24 x 40 mm, and have a perforation of 14 x 14. The denomination appears in the upper right corner of each stamp, and the words POSTE VATICANE appear along the bottom.
- The Italian State Polygraphic Institute and Mint printed 650,000 complete series on white chalky paper in multicolor photogravure print. The Vatican issued the stamps in sheets of forty. Luca Vangelli designed and engraved the stamps.
