Object Details
- Description
- The American flag waving proudly above Mt. Rushmore is featured on a 29-cent coil stamp issued on March 29, 1991, in Mt. Rushmore (Keystone), South Dakota. The Mount Rushmore National Memorial celebrated its fiftieth anniversary that year on July 4, 1991.
- Designed by Clarence Holbert, the stamps were engraved through the intaglio process by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Stamps per coil were 100, 500, and 3,000.
- On July 4, 1991, the Postal Service also issued a new gravure, 10,000 coil version of the 29-cent Flag Over Mt. Rushmore stamp, in Mt. Rushmore, in honor of the golden anniversary of the national memorial. The American Bank Note Company printed the later issue gravure stamps.
