- Description
- America's coastal lighthouses, familiar symbols of safety and direction to mariners everywhere, are portrayed in a booklet of five commemorative stamps issued on April 26, 1990, in Washington, DC, at the National Archives.
- Featured are the Admiralty Head (Washington), Cape Hatteras (North Carolina), Quoddy Head (Maine), American Shoals (Florida), and Sandy Hook (New Jersey) light houses. The Sandy Hook, built in 1764, is America's oldest existing lighthouse.
- Designed by Howard Koslow, the stamps were printed in the offset/intaglio process and issued in panes of five.
