- On May 31, 1994, Vatican City issued a series of stamps honoring the International Year of the Family. The series consists of four stamps that are vertical in format, measure 30 x 40 mm, and have a perforation of 13 1/4 x 14. They were printed on white, chalky paper in color photogravure and issued in sheets of twenty. The Italian State Polygraphic Institute and Mint printed 450,000 complete series.
- Professor Giovanni Hajnal designed the stamps. Along the sides appear the Papal Tiara and Crossed Keys, the inscription ANNO + INTERNAZIONALE + DELLA + FAMIGLIA + CITTA + DEL + VATICANO + 1994, the Cross uniting two wedding rings (symbol of the Christian family), and the value. The values and the subjects are as follows: 400 lire - God creating man and woman; 750 lire - The family beneath a scroll bearing the abbreviated names of the four evangelists; 1,000 lire - Parents teaching their son; 2,000 lire - A young man showing solidarity with old people.
