13c Hawaiian Missionary and 13c Kamehameha III on cover
Object Details
- Description
- The 13-cent Hawaiian Missionary stamp plus the 1853 13-cent Kamehameha III stamp paid the double rate to Port Gibson, Mississippi. The stamps received a large grid of squares cork cancel and a Honolulu postage paid circular datestamp before the ship Boston's September 10, 1853 departure. In the United States, the post office applied the San Francisco arrival mark, the "paid" handstamp, and the pencil "14" rate (2-cent ship captain's fee plus double 6-cent U.S. rate).
