- Description
- The Postal Service issued The World of Dinosaurs commemorative stamps in a souvenir sheet of fifteen designs on May 1, 1997, in Grand Junction, Colorado.
- Designed and illustrated by James Gurney of Rhinebeck, New York, the souvenir sheet features fifteen different prehistoric animals in two scenes, one from the Colorado region of 150 million years ago, and one from the Montana region of 75 million years ago. The Colorado scene features the Ceratosaurus, Camptosaurus, Camarasaurus, Brachiosaurus, Goniopholis, Stegosaurus, Allosaurus, and Opisthias. The Montana scene features the Edmontonia, Einiosaurus, Daspletosaurus, Palaeosaniwa, Corythosaurus, Ornithomimus, and Parasaurolophus. Gurney worked with paleontologists and paleobotanists to ensure the accuracy of the dinosaurs, flora, fauna, and other animals depicted on the stamps.
