- Description
- The Postal service issued the 1-dollar Surrender at Saratoga stamp on May 5, 1994, at the New York MEGA Show in New York, New York. The stamp was developed from a design created in 1869 by the National Bank Note Co. It was originally prepared, but not used, for the 1869 US postage series. The central image or vignette features an engraved rendering of the John Trumbull painting, "The Surrender of General Burgoyne at Saratoga," an important American victory during the American Revolution in 1777. The victory was a decisive factor leading to the signing of the French Alliance in 1778.
- The stamps were engraved through the intaglio process by Stamp Venturers, Inc., and issued in panes of twenty.
