- Description
- Four 33-cent Tropical Flowers commemorative stamps were issued on May 1, 1999, in Honolulu, Hawaii. The stamps were designed by Carl Herrman of Laguna Niguel, California, and illustrated by Steven Buchanan of Winsted, Connecticut.
- Tropical flowers offer American gardeners and flower enthusiasts a treasure trove of color, size, and form. Species honored on the stamp grow in Hawaii, the southern part of Florida, and southern California. The four species are shown in the stamp art are the bird of paradise, the royal poinciana, the gloriosa lily, and the Chinese hibiscus.
- 1.5 billion gravure-printed stamps were manufactured by Sennett Security Products.
