- Description
- The Postal Service issued a 33-cent Library of Congress commemorative stamp in Washington, DC, on April 24, 2000.
- Established by an act of Congress on April 24, 1800, the Library of Congress marked its bicentennial with a national celebration of all libraries. The stamp, designed by Ethel Kessler of Bethesda, Maryland, based on a 1980 photograph by Michael Freeman of London, England, went on sale nationwide April 25, 2000.
- The stamp features an image of the interior dome and several of the arched windows in the main reading room in the Thomas Jefferson Building.
- Ashton-Potter (USA), Ltd., printed 55 million stamps in the offset/microprint process.
