Object Details
- Description
- The 33-cent NATO commemorative stamp was issued in Brussels, Belgium, on October 13, 1999. The stamp was designed by Michael Cronan of San Francisco, California.
- This stamp was a tribute to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO's) role as a peacekeeping force on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. Twelve countries participated in the original treaty creating NATO, and four additional countries joined between 1952 and 1982. In 1999, three more nations joined, bringing the total number of participating countries to nineteen.
- 44.6 million stamps were printed by Ashton-Potter (USA), Ltd., in the offset process.
