World War II Patriotic cover
Object Details
- Description
- "Keep That Light Burning!"
- The Torch of Liberty burns brightly on this serviceman's cover postmarked New London, Connecticut, October 2, 1942. There is one letter (2002.2035.114.2) associated with this cover that was sent under Free Franking from Fort Michie, New York via New London. Where most servicemen's covers carry a handwritten 'Free' in the upper right, someone has applied a specially designed handstamp that carries an image of the flag and the word Free. Jacques Minkus published this cachet.
