World War II Patriotic cover
Object Details
- Description
- "The JIG (Japan, Italy, Germany) Is Up! Who's Next?"
- The faces of Prime Minister Hideki Tojo and Dictators Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler illustrate this cachet by Richard P. Boone of Wilmington, North Carolina. Il Duce (Mussolini) has been marked as eliminated in this design but was not killed until 1945. Tojo lost his position in 1944 but was not hanged as a war criminal until 1948. And Hitler was finally defeated in 1945 -- commiting suicide as the Russian forces advanced to take over Berlin.
- The serviceman's cover was sent under Free Franking from Camp Beale, California. Postmarked Camp Beale, California, March 11, 1944.
