World War II Patriotic cover

- Description
- "We Won't Forget Lidice .... Keep America Free!"
- Hitler ordered the destruction of the Czech mining village of Lidice in June 1942 in retaliation for the murder of Nazi SS Obergruppenfuhrer Reinhard Heydrich. Hitler believed the village aided the assassins. All the men and boys over age 16 were shot. The women and children were transported to Ravensbruck concentration camp.
- The patriotic cachet was by Walter T. Poppenger, an Akron, Ohio stamp dealer, who produced seventy-seven different patriotic cachets throughout the war years.
- The cover, postmarked U. S. Navy, October 30, 1944, and initialed by a naval censor, was bound for Buffalo, New York. It passed through the Fleet Post Office in New York City on way to its destination. A horizontal pair of three-cent United States Scott 905 is affixed.
