- The U. S. Army, backbone of national defense, is, in the present day, made up of a closely coordinated combination of highly specialized services and corps. Each plays its indispensible part in any campaign of offense or defense. But all cooperate in preparation for the advance and occupation by the infantry, 'The Queen of Battles', which, throughout our nation's history, has been a symbol of the entire victorious service known as 'the Army'."
