- Description
- The envelope, postmarked Charleston, South Carolina, April 24, bears a pair of Jefferson Davis 5-cent blue stamps, used to prepay the ten-cent rate. The postage rate was increased to ten cents for all distances on July 1, 1862.
- Engraved by Thos. De La Rue. Ltd., a London, England, company hired by Postmaster General John H. Reagan to supply the Confederate states with quality postage stamps. Printed in Richmond by Archer and Daly.
