- Description
- 10-cent greenish blue (Scott CSA #11) cancelled by Powell Type 6L postmark from Richmond, Virginia December 22 (ca 1863) to Cobham, Virginia. Envelope’s black border indicates contents probably announced the death of a friend or relative and is thus referred to by collectors as a Mourning Cover.
- The addressee is William Cabell Rives who was at that time a member of the Confederate Congress. Previously Rives had served in the United States Senate and the House of Representatives as well as having served as Ambassador to France.
