- The eightieth birthday of Pope John XXIII was commemorated by the issuance of six stamps on November 25, 1961.
- The Roncalli family Coat of Arms is shown on the 10-lire stamp and a likeness of the pope on the 115-lire stamp. Other values show scenes of Pope John's baptism (25-lire), his ordination (30-lire), his Episcopal consecration (40-lire), and his coronation in St. Peter's Basilica (70-lire).
