- Rural FD bearskin gloves
Rural FD bearskin gloves
Object Details
- Description
- A pair of bearskin gloves made by Aulabaugh Furs of Omaha, NE. Worn by Addison Parker, who worked as a RFD carrier out of Fullerton and Central City, Nebraska. He delivered the mail by horse and buggy, working from the late 1800s to the early 1900s.
- These items are typical of the type of clothing worn by RFD carriers working in the years before auto heating. Fur coats and gloves helped keep carriers warm during the winter as they drove buggies between households, on routes that had several miles between stops.
