- Dark gray and breaks into long flat plates which curl along the edges.

- Pinnately compound, alternate leaves with 20 to 30 oval leaflets. Leaflets are .5-1.5" long. Leaves are 6-8" long.

- Flat, red-brown pod which curl slightly and contain several seeds and a sweet, gummy substance. Up to 18" long. Mature in late summer and persist into winter.
