Object Details

Notes
"London: Bradbury, Agnew & Co. Ld., printers, Whitefriars" --Verso of title page.
Entries for some of the listed painters and engravers provide brief biographical details (birth and death dates, academy memberships, who they studied under, and so forth).
Pagination for the printed sections of the publication: 79, [5], 22 pages. The index of painters is on the first 44 pages; the index of engravers is on the following pages for that section ([45]-79). The final 22 pages include the Companies' Acts 1862-1890, the memorandum and articles of association and rules of the Printsellers' Association (revised April 1894).
AAPGRB copy 39088019638204 has tipped in at the end of the volume: Members of the Printsellers' Association, January, 1898 ([2] pages).
AAPGRB copy also has many blank leaves bound in, with numerous additional listings handwritten in ink (this section is organized by the alphabetical thumb-tabs). The Association's acts, memorandum and articles of association also have some handwritten and draft printed corrections and rewritten passages. This copy may have been used as a working draft for a new edition by G.W. Friend or someone else in the administration of the Printsellers' Association.
AAPGRB copy has a gilt-tooled black half-leather and black embossed cloth binding with marbled endpapers and edges, and alphabetical thumb-tabs cut into the fore-edges; the spine cover is wanting. Housed in a two-piece gray archival paperboard box.
