- The Atlas is supplemented by the "Atlas accompanying the counter case of the United States" which consists of maps numbered 26-47. It contains also biographical notes in regard to some of the cartographers: Arrowsmith, Hermann Berghaus, Adrien Hubert Brué, Thomas Devine, Eugène Duflot de Mofras, Robert Greenhow, John Pinkerton, Henry S. Tanner, Tichmenieff or Tikhmenief (Russian, ) and Johann Walch. Maps no. 1-3, 25, were prepared in the office of the U. S. Coast and geodetic survey.
