SCNHRB copy 39088015653124 is imperfect: pages 7-8 are wanting. The title page is scuffed in the upper left corner, not affecting the text
SCNHRB copy formerly belonged to the author, and has his brief handwritten annotations in ink and pencil throughout. With inscription: This book to my beloved [? evidence of erasure, seems to have said "daughter &" ?] son, from his father, James B. Nicholson. The son's name, M. Nicholson, appears on a typed paper label at the foot of the spine
SCNHRB copy has a typescript, mimeographed slip of paper from an unidentified source tipped in on page 11: "Japanese indemnity fund, February 22nd, 1883 "
SCNHRB copy has a [4] page program inserted at the end of the volume, with cover title: "Anniversary. Third re-union of the United States sloop of war Jamestown Veteran Association, Monday, October 13th, 1884, at Shuster's Cafe, 60 North Eighth Street, Philadelphia"; printed by John D. Avil & Co., Market St.
SCNHRB copy has a contemporary gilt- and blind-tooled dark brown embossed cloth binding; re-backed, with a protective, close-fitting dust-jacket made from clear plastic
