- The expedition to meet up with Dr. Livingstone, headed by Lt. Grandy, has set out from Africa's west coast and is now proceeding up the Congo River. If successful, it will produce extremely interesting geographical information. Sir Samuel Baker, traveling as always with his wife, met with serious opposition to his mission to stop the slave trade on the White Nile in the Sudan but ultimately returned to Cairo reporting success.
