- The occurrence of click-speaking peoples in southern Africa (San) and in central Tanzania (Sandawe) (and nowhere else on the continent) leads to a comparison of the rock art produced by these peoples. Though long believed to be somehow linked, no one has gone beyond pointing our "resemblances" and affinities in the style of these rock paintings. Lewis-Williams dismisses stylistic and image comparisons as a waste of time and instead turns to ethnography for answers. He focuses on trance and hallucinations.
