It also explores the historic importance of a significant number of these deeply cultural, profoundly social objects. The Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian in New York, the George Gustav Heye Center, features exhibitions, performances, films and symposia that present the diversity of the Native people of the Americas and the strength and continuity of their cultures from the earliest times to the present. The National Museum of the American Indian in New York is located at One Bowling Green, across from Battery Park, in the historic Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House.
