- Rising Together through COVID-19 - Essential Workers: Nursing
- Description
- Many of the systemic inequities that marginalize Asian American and Latino communities have been intensified by the effects of COVID-19, making our communities more vulnerable. Asian American and Latino community members have found ways to act, inspire and uplift those around them by seeing themselves as part of solutions for equity and belonging. In this video, meet Maria Estela Mendoza and Jonathan Fernandez, both traveling nurses, who talk about their experiences working in the healthcare industry during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Rising Together through COVID-19" is a video series that centers Asian American and Latino frontline workers across the country who share their stories and lived experiences through the pandemic. The conversations you’ll hear in this video, and others, touch on themes of equity, belonging, and identity. Educators looking for first-voice narratives to include in their teaching can look to the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center and National Museum of the American Latino “Civil Intersections: Asian-Latino Solidarity Movements” Learning Lab Collections for additional classroom activities and multimedia resources: https://learninglab.si.edu/collections/civil-intersections-resource-kit-part-one/Z5WprUaJx6flDL4C https://learninglab.si.edu/collections/civil-intersections-resource-kit-part-two/tDMVcBnUIxhFu6j9
