Mariachi Los Camperos - Medley [Live at La Fonda | March 2017]
Description
In March of 2017, Mariachi Los Camperos performed at La Fonda in Los Angeles, the historic home of the group founded by their former bandleader, the late Nati Cano, in 1969. In this medley, which opened the performance, they play "Llegaron los Camperos (The Camperos Arrived)," the group's typical opening theme for decades, "Qué bonita es mi tierra (How Pretty is My Land)," a traditional mariachi favorite, and "Sur de la Frontera (South of the Border)," the Camperos version of the popular Tin Pan Alley tune by Michael Carr and Jimmy Kennedy which appears on their upcoming full-length De Ayer para Siempre, out August 23, 2019 on Smithsonian Folkways. Edited by Xueying Shu Camera by Charlie Weber Audio by Pete Reiniger 'De Ayer para Siempre' available on CD and Digital. The Grammy-winning group’s new album, De Ayer para Siempre (From Yesterday to Forever), revitalizes classic sones, rancheras, and boleros with unparalleled artistry and spirited ingenuity. Founded by late mariachi legend Nati Cano, Mariachi Los Camperos is now fronted by bandleader Jesús “Chuy” Guzman, who continues to promote Cano’s legacy. As a result, the group is not only one of the most popular and influential mariachi ensembles in the world, but also is richly emblematic of the social status and artistic recognition that mariachi has finally attained.
