A Lifetime of Memories
Career Summary
Many years ago, a retired Postal Carrier living next door to me mentioned that I should think about going to work for the Postal Service. He said, "Look at me and the way I'm living being retired." And so I did. I sent in the required post card for the next test, studied hard for the test and took the Postal Service Clerk Machine Clerk exam in Tampa, Florida in May, 1986 and got hired as an LSM Clerk the following October. I was very happy about getting the job as I knew what it meant in the way of job security, pay and benefits and I thought I would definitely stay there until I retired at 65 years of age. I was 45 when I started working at the Main Post Office in St. Petersburg, Florida. As just about any former, retired or current postal employee can attest to, working for the Postal Service definitely has its ups and downs but overall, I can say that it is the best employer that I ever worked for. I am currently the President of the Suncoast APWU Retiree Chapter here in Florida and am serving my second two year term. I enjoy interacting with my fellow postal employees at the bi-monthly luncheons. Working with my fellow postal employees was one of the best experiences I have ever had in life. Those days have given me a lifetime of memories.
