My first day on the job I met a guy named Banks, Mr. Banks. The first he said, ‘you rookies, you always got to have a pen. Remember that, you always have to have a pen.’ We looked at him like, are we about to get writer’s cramp? He said, ‘no, it lets me know that you’re paying attention and that you’re going to be proficient.’ And I thought that was good.
