The Blizzard of January 1978
Weather and Disasters
The thing I could tell you about the most would probably be the blizzard of January 78’. Well, they practically shut everything down that day, and I walked, I didn’t have very far to go. The wind was so bad it blew me back across the street, twice. I spent about an hour down there and they sent us home. And the next day I walked back over again and we worked that day. It was January 26 and January 27 of that year. You don’t forget something like that very quickly. That was in Columbus, Ohio. Like I said, that afternoon I walked over there and the wind was blowing, the temperature was about 0. I got there and there was no mail moving, the airport was open but no planes were landing or taking off so we really had no mail coming in or going out. The next day I went back and they were trying to get mail delivered. They were putting trucks out on the street. I worked up what I could and sent what I could. I put in a full day .
