My First Day
First Day On the Job
After taking the civil service test in the spring of 1973 I was finally offered a PTF Carrier job in May of 74. My first day was not at all what I expected when I tested there were 3500 applications for every job. I figured I would get a lot of training lol. My job was to carry the mail bag for my old little league coach known as Shorty who was the only walking carrier in our post office. We started out with a full 40lb bag he walked with me to the first stop and told me just follow the mail and when I run out come back to the post office. Well that was a long day but I learned a lot walking all of downtown. The next day was a lot easier.
