Graf Zeppelin World Flight postal card
Object Details
- Description
- The LZ127 Graf Zeppelin flew this 1-cent postal card from Los Angeles to Lakehurst on its flight around the world in 1929. The card was posted in Los Angeles on August 26, 1929, flew across the United States to Lakehurst, New Jersey, on August 29, 1929. In addition to the stamp honoring Lindbergh's flight in the 'Spirit of St. Louis', the block of four 5-cent stamps on the reverse helps make the rate of forty cents for this leg, which is overpaid by one cent due to the 1-cent postal stationery card used. This card then went by surface from Lakehurst to the address in Toronto, Canada. Commander Hugo Eckener autographed the card.
