Graf Zeppelin Swiss Flight post card
Object Details
- Description
- On its first flight over Switzerland of 1929, the LZ127 Graf Zeppelin dropped this card over Lausanne. The 5 Rappen Swiss postage remained uncancelled onboard the airship, although a red private onboard cachet and a black zeppelin onboard postmark were applied to the card.
- One hundred sixty-one pieces were dropped over Lausanne, where the Swiss postage was tied by a Lausanne postmark. The card was then forwarded to its final destination at Bern by surface mail. At Bern it received "poste restante" service (keep at post office until pick up by addressee). The 10 Rappen postage due stamp and the "10" crayon notation are probably for this "poste restante" fee.
