Graf Zeppelin Holland Flight postcard

- Description
- Postcard carried by the LZ127 Graf Zeppelin on its October 12-13, 1929, flight to Holland. The card is franked with five German airmail stamps totaling 50 Reichspfennig in postage and tied with onboard postmarks dated October 13, 1929. The red confirmation cachets "An Bord des Graf Zeppelins 13. Okt. 1929" ("On board the Graf Zeppelin October 13, 1929") and "Mit Luftschiff Graf Zeppelin befördert" ("Carried on the Graf Zeppelin") have been applied. A private red cachet "Luftschiff Graf Zeppelin Hollandfahrt" ("Airship Graf Zeppelin Holland flight") picturing a windmill has been affixed. The card also bears the special confirmation propeller cachet "Amsterdam 13.X.29 per Luchtpost aangebracht" in black. Officer Anton Wittemann addressed this card to himself. In 1937 Wittemann survived the LZ129 Hindenburg disaster at Lakehurst, New Jersey.
