- During the Manhattan Project, employees working at Los Alamos NM on the atomic bomb had their mail sent to an undercover address that would not reveal their whereabouts: PO Box 1663, Sante Fe NM. In November 1942 General Leslie Groves and physicist Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer chose the Los Alamos site to design and build atomic bombs. This cover is postmarked on May 1, 1944 and addressed to Staff Sargeant William Cody at box 1663. The stamp, Scott 905 is a "Win the War" issue. The envelope has been censored by U.S. Army Examiner at Base 2035. No contents.
