"Vote Early Flatten the Mail Curve" handmade poster with cover
Object Details
- Description
- The message to "flatten the curve" by self-isolating dominated early in the 2020 coronavirus pandemic as medical facilities struggled to adequately care for infected persons. This poster similarly calls on viewers to "flatten the mail curve" by returning mail-in ballots early rather than overloading the postal system in the days before the election. This is the original artwork collage from which "about a dozen reduced-form images (8 1/2” x 11”) were produced and posted at various locations around the Lakewood Ranch, FL community," according to artist Joan Drury. It incorporates an actual Manatee County ballot return envelope, an official piece of election mail. Locations where the posters were displayed included a community, fitness, and art centers in southeastern Manatee County, Florida. November 3, 2020, the date of the presidential general election, is displayed at bottom center. It is signed by the artist at lower right.
