- Description
- The special passport issued to William Callahan was for official business. The passport cover reads, “No. 25812 / SPECIAL / PASSPORT / [figurative of seal of the United States] / United States / of America," and has lettering in gold on a green and black background featuring circular seals of the Department of States, United States of America. An inscription inside indicates it was issued to William Francis Callahan and includes the number “S 21541” along with infomation such as his address and emergency contact. The date of issue is January 23, 1943; There are numerous stamps in and out of various countries along with notations on the interior pages.
- This passport is from the collection of William Callahan, a career US postal inspector, who served with the US Navy during World War II and applied his knowledge of postal logistics to his assignment of coordinating voting procedures for the US Navy personnel during the wartime elections.
