- Physical and Chemical Geology Exhibit presented at the Conference on the Future of the Smithsonian with George P. Merrill (1854-1929), curator, seated looking at the exhibit. The picture on the right hanging on the panel is identified as a "Falling Meteorite." In front of him on a long table are different types of mineral specimens. Behind him is the Vertebrate Paleontology Exhibit. The exhibits were located in the Smithsonian Institution Building or "Castle." Merrill was a geologist and head curator of the Department of Geology, United States National Museum from 1917-1929.
