Care Package
Military Mail
My first time away from home, I was 22, outside of the country, assigned to South Korea. You worked 24 hour shifts so you worked 24 and then you were off 2. I had just finished my 24 hour shift, it was right after Thanksgiving, and for pay day, no one has any money, and so I get my military mail and I get my goodie package. I took my goodie package and I went down to the local bar and all of the bar girls are sitting around there in their nice evening dresses, and no one else was there, so I open up my package, and all of the bees come to the honey. I had a couple of beers and I shared my hot salami, crackers and cheese, my candies and cookies with the gals, and at the end of the night, everybody was happy. I had a smile on my face and I packed up the rest of my goodies and went on home. I was able to share. My military mail, you couldn’t get away without it. We had delivery. We had military mail delivery when I was in Korea. It was 7 days a week, we always had a 7 days a week. We picked up our mail and it was always put out on time.
