I moved on from the clerk craft to the maintenance craft and so I had the chance to work on machines and learn the new machines that came in that ultimately changed the post office from the old hand sorting to the mechanical sorting and from the mechanical sorting to the electronic sorting now. Very little of the mail is handled by hand anymore. Even the hand written stuff. The machines and the computers are so fast they can do 95% accuracy just on your handwriting a letter and nobody has to look and try to remember who that belongs to because the machines do it.
